Reyes, locals light Highland Theater sign

Reyes, children light up the historic Highland Theater sign.

Reyes and locals flipped the Highland Theater sign switch at the Old Farmers Market on Tuesday in Highland Park. The Highland Theater is designated a Historic Cultural monument designed in 1924 by Lewis "L.A." Smith. The 502-bulb display has been dark since 2004, and is one of only two large incandescent bulb signs still in use along Route 66 in Los Angeles. The project is funded by private donors and the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Grant Program.
