Background
A resolution proposed by Councilmembers Janice Hahn and Ed P. Reyes to denounce Arizona’s new immigration legislation and boycott the State of Arizona will be voted on by the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday, May 12. The resolution calls for Los Angeles, and all of its departments, to end current contracts with, and refrain from future contracts with, Arizona-based companies.
According to a City report, Los Angeles has 35 contracts totaling about $7.7 million with Arizona-based companies. The City and its proprietary departments, not including Department of Water and Power(DWP), have 48 contracts totaling at least $56 million with Arizona-based companies. Proprietary departments include the Harbor Department, Community Redevelopment Agency/LA, Los Angeles World Airports(LAWA) and LAWA Airlines. Data from DWP is not yet available.
